Afternoon, Revisited: The Finished Painting

A couple stroll in a park in this detail from the painting.

A modern painting of a park full of people, dressed in period costume, near the edge of a lake.

Tadaaah! Here it is: my completed version of Georges Seurat’s, “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte”. I titled it, “Afternoon, Revisited “. You can see the original Seurat painting below.

I started this piece as a challenge to myself, as a reaction to a whole lot of rejections. But as I worked through the piece, I became entranced by the characters and the place. This piece stretched my abilities, but it also brought me a new world to hang out in.

What are you excited about? Tell me about it.

The original painting of  “Afternoon, Revisited” is available for purchase here. And prints are available here.

See the evolution of this piece from sneak peek to color study to initial idea to character studies to characters inhabiting the painting to this post of the completed painting.
