A Sunday Study

Did you guess the painting that inspired the piece I am starting here? It’s George Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte”. You can see the original below.

Before I started painting and inking my version of Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte”, I did a composition study to get the layout and proportions (see the top image). This really helped out rendering the illusion of distance (perspective) and dimension.

I love this park. What park do you want to spend your Sunday afternoons in?

See the evolution of this piece from sneak peek to color study to initial idea in this post to character studies to characters inhabiting the painting to the big reveal of the completed painting.

The original painting of  “Afternoon, Revisited” is available for purchase here. And prints are available here.
