Journey of Hope 2017: Work in Progress, Finding the Image

A random spatter of paints in lavenders, blues, and pinks, from which the painting will be created.

The random paint spatter used to create the painting for the Journey of Hope exhibit 2017.

The detail of the painting I last posted started out as the spatter of color that you see here.

An ethereal woman is sketched in amongst the spatters of color in the paint.

The first image begins to reveal itself in this sketch.

Here, you can see the figure I found there in the paint.  Here you can see the figure I found there. I am working from a piece of writing provided to me by the Journey of Hope Exhibit coordinators. (You can read more about that in these posts in my blog, here and here.)

My writer described her struggles with, and later her triumph over, Tourette’s Syndrome and the stress that it put on her mental health. I focused on her journey and her resolve with it.

The figure of a woman emerges as she is defined in pen and ink, the colors around her invigorate her, but will need to be managed.

Inking in the image helps to distinguish it from the chaos of the colors surrounding it.

Here you can see the beginnings of the inking phase. What images can you see in the paint?
