A flat lay of the life of The Woman in a Red Raspberry Beret (painting). Her possessions include an irridescent raspberry suede satchel with burnished metal chain, a braided, silver chain necklace, attitude sunglasses, a book of poems of the French poet Charles Baudelaire, large and medium make-up brushes, lipstick, iphone earbuds, eyebrow shade kit, sketchbook, sketch and pen, wrist bangles, ring bands, and more wrist bangles.

Do you like flat lays? I love using flat lays as part of my art process. They help me throughout the process, before I start, during the creation of, and after I’ve finished the painting. (I also love flat lays for flat lays’ sake.) This flat lay told me so much about the personality of the woman I was painting, my version of Picasso’s “Woman in a Red Beret”. See a sneak peek here.

I discovered that for me she was a modern, tech-savvy chick, with an eye for vintage collectibles. She’s young, urban, and intelligent and refuses to be put in a box. She’s hip, gritty, and has got a flair for Baudelaire. She knows the real thing when she sees it.

What would you put in a flat lay about yourself? I wanna know.
