What would you do?

For the Journey of Hope Art Show, I was given a written story of a young woman’s real life journey through mental health challenges. I did not know the woman, but I was to create a painting inspired by what she had written.

While she shared her diagnosis, she focused on her deep grief over losing her father when she was younger and how she had dealt with it by creating art. Her father had introduced her to art and encouraged her in this pursuit.

She wrote about how she could not talk about her grief or her mental illness, that she bottled up her feelings. But with art, she could express herself. She could flow.

What would you paint from this story?

I start every painting from a paint spatter. I find an image in it and go from there.

This is the paint spatter I found an image in for this woman’s story.

What can you see in it?

Watch for my next post to see my rough sketch of what my subconscious came up with.

The reception at the Crocker Art Museum will be

Sunday, December 15th

1 pm to 2:30 pm

I hope you can make it.

You can see the show at its current venue:

November 28-January 5, 2019: at the Crocker Art Museum
