Your inspiration for the week: Woo Your Muse.

And unfortunately for me, this is exactly what I am NOT doing right now. Instead, I’m nose-deep in preparing my taxes. But I’ll have to write more about the muse, one of my favorite subjects, after I’ve recorded my 80 billionth receipt and got the whole production off to the IRS.

I know.

When you saw this post, you didn’t think you were going to read about paperwork and taxes.

Okay, then.

A tip for wooing your muse (for the most inspiring of results).

Treat her to a delight — that is, an activity that delights YOU.

Also, it’s a solitary endeavor, just you and the muse.

And, it can’t qualify as productive time. There should be nothing productive about this activity. Think daydreaming lying on your back in the sunlit garden (I imagine, as the rain comes down in sheet outside, right now). Think binge-reading your favorite novel or watching your favorite classic movie. It should feel like a guilty pleasure, an unnecessary luxury (but it shouldn’t cost a lot – remember those taxes).

So, now back to my number-crunching. Wish me luck!

And let me know: do you love number-crunching or do you prefer absolutely any other activity in the world? I wanna know.
