Journey of Hope 2017 Exhibit: Last Year’s Painting

A woman with radiating hair, sings among luminous faces in the air, all in lavenders and blues.
An open-mouthed woman in a vouminous gown and with her hair radiating from her head, hand on her chest, sings, as waves wash up around her and luminous faces appear in the air, all in lavenders and blues.

“Finding Her Voice” was my painting for last year’s (2016) Journey of Hope exhibit.

If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen that I am creating a painting for the Journey of Hope Exhibit 2017 that is happening in October. I thought you might like to see the painting I created for last year’s exhibit. This painting is called, “Finding Her Voice”. The exhibit promotes mental health awareness and wellness. Writers describe their mental health challenges and journeys to wellness. Then, the exhibit coordinators pair each story with an artist who in turn creates a piece inspired by the story. Last year was the first time I participated in this show and I was surprised by the connection I felt to my writer, who I didn’t meet until the opening reception. I also felt fulfilled and completed by participating in this effort.

“Finding Her Voice” was inspired by Sue Daly’s story of her struggles with bipolar disorder and of finally being able to speak about her life experiences as her triumph. Keep checking back for more on the developments of the new painting for this year’s exhibit.
