The Adventures of Skelly Ball at the 6th Annual Fine Arts Competition
Are you as surprised as I was? I couldn’t believe it when they called my name to receive the award: a red ribbon for second place in my category. When I entered my painting, “Skelly Ball”, into the 6th Annual Fine Arts Competition (hosted by the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center), I thought I would be lucky just to get accepted. I was thrilled just to get the acceptance email and I posted about being accepted and the upcoming reception here. But I was absolutely elated to actually receive a prize at the reception Saturday, March 3rd.

The Elk Grove Fine Arts Center (EGFAC) put on a wonderful and professional show. The submission process was seamless and they made everything look so easy. The other artists in the show had produced spectacular work and you’ll want to swing by and visit, if you have the opportunity.
The exhibit was curated and awarded by Kristina Perea Gilmore, Associate Curator of the Crocker Art Museum. We were so lucky to have her. She also attended the reception.
I was so happy to see fellow artist Katrina Ernst there. We had met at the Blue Line Arts Gallery in Roseville a couple months ago and she is so much fun. Her painting, “Scattered”, won an award, as well. I also met artist Judy Knott there, who has a lovely oil painting on display called, “A Boy and his Dog”. And an artist whose work I first saw at the Small Treasures show at EGFAC, Kim English, had 2 abstract landscapes exhibited. While she didn’t attend the reception, I got to connect up with her on Facebook later.
Many of the staff at the EGFAC are also artists. Jan Rau, Bonnie Santos Cooper, Darrci Robertson, and Jolene Matson all have art on display, as well. Jan Rau displayed an absolutely stunning watercolor landscape. Bonnie Santos Cooper submitted a vibrant still life. Darrci Robertson and Jolene Matson both have intriguing 3-dimensional art in the exhibit.
The EGFAC also celebrated its 10th anniversary at the reception Saturday night. They have added so much to the local community, as well as to the region’s art community. Congratulations, Elk Grove Fine Arts Center!
