Journey of Hope Exhibit 2017: The Beginnings

Woman's face with lavender and blue floating hair, surrounded by flowers.
A woman's face and upturned left hand, flowers in lavenders, blues and pinks surround her and float above her hand.

A detail from the new piece for the Journey of Hope Exhibit.

Do some of your projects take you by surprise? Do they bring up a feeling of connection on a deeper level that you didn’t foresee? That’s how this painting is for me. I am creating it for the Journey of Hope Exhibit and I am so proud to be a part of it.

You may be wondering, “What is the Journey of Hope Exhibit?” (This painting is for that exhibit.) The full name of the exhibit may help to start to explain it: “Journey of Hope: Real Life Stories of Living With Mental Health Challenges Portrayed Through Art”. Writers describe their mental health journeys. Then, an artist is assigned to each of those stories and creates a piece of art inspired by the given story.

I participated in the Journey of Hope Exhibit last year and found it so moving andĀ fulfilling that I could not miss it this year. You can see the video I made about it in the Video Library of this site. I’ll post last year’s painting later this month, so be sure to check back in for both that and to watch the progress of this year’s piece and its grand reveal.
