Whales amaze me. They’re so huge, but so gentle. I love them as a symbol, as an embodiment of peace and wisdom. They dive to the depths of the ocean, but they have the power to burst through the surface of the water, and hurl their whole bodies into the sky, into the sunshine as they breach. They carry that awesome, deep knowledge and understanding that they collect in the depths with them, as they migrate around the world. But whales live so much of their lives in under the surface of the water, that we rarely get a chance to see them. That’s why I was so excited to find the image of them breaching above the waves where we can see them, in this paint spatter.

About this painting:

This original painting was rendered using the finest acrylic pigment paints, pen and ink, and carbon crystal pastels. The paints have a clarity and robustness that offers a rainbow variety of color to bring light into your room. The carbon crystal pastels reflect light due to their crystalline nature, unlike chalk pastels, which results in a dimensional quality in the image. The crystalline effect cannot be reproduced, it can only be viewed in the original piece.
Fully framed and matted. The paper substrate is floated on the matting, highlighting the tactile qualities of this piece.
